Gardenia blue is not carcinogenic in the rasH2 mouse

چکیده
Introduction Gardenia blue is currently being considered as a naturally derived food colorant for use in the global marketplace. Methods To assess its carcinogenic potential, 100 female and male CByB6F1-Tg (HRAS)2Jic (rasH2) mice were allocated to four dose groups exposed gardenia diet 26 weeks at levels of 0.0% (control), 0.5%, 2.5%, or 5.0% (corresponding 0.0, 664.8, 3341.0, 6623.2 mg/kg/day 1182.7, 5561.1, 10,440.3 mice, respectively). An additional group 10 males females was administered intraperitoneal N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) positive control. Clinical observations, body organ weights, clinical chemistry, hematology, hormone analyses performed addition urinalysis histopathology. Results The control elicited expected responses specific rasH2 mice. There sporadic background non-dose-related findings pathology parameters anatomic common absence any induced dose-related changes. Discussion Under these study conditions, no-observed-adverse-effect level 5% (6623.2 mice). Conclusions Based on this high dietary negative carcinogenicity mouse test system.

[Determination of methanol in gardenia red and gardenia blue].
The natural food color gardenia red is manufactured through the hydrolysis of the methyl ester of iridoid glucoside. Gardenia blue is also made from iridoid glucoside. Therefore, there is a possibility that the commercial products contain methanol. To determine methanol in gardenia red and gardenia blue, a headspace GC method with standard addition was developed. In the case of gardenia blue wi...
متن کاملCutaneously applied 4-hydroxytamoxifen is not carcinogenic in female rats.
Tamoxifen is widely used to treat oestrogen-dependent carcinoma of the breast. Previous long-term studies have shown that oral administration of tamoxifen induces hepatoproliferative lesions and hepatocellular tumours in rats. 4-hydroxytamoxifen is an active metabolite of tamoxifen undergoing clinical evaluation for the treatment of various non-malignant breast diseases by topical application. ...
متن کاملKeishibukuryogan is not carcinogenic in Sprague-Dawley rats
Keishibukuryogan is a traditional Japanese medicine widely administered to patients with menopausal symptoms. Because humans use it on a long-term basis, we believed that a carcinogenicity study was warranted. We orally administered keishibukuryogan (TJ-25) extract powder to 6-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats [Crl:CD(SD)], which were divided into four dosage groups-0 (water for injection), 100, 500...

I read with interest the EHP supplement on oxygen radicals and lung injury (vol. 102, supplement 10). I would like to take this opportunity to comment about this supplement and raise a key issue concerning the major concepts regarding the mechanisms of cellular injury in inflammatory diseases. As an active investigator in this field of research, I cannot fully understand why there was no mentio...
متن کاملThe NSAID sulindac is chemopreventive in the mouse distal colon but carcinogenic in the proximal colon.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug sulindac is an effective chemopreventive agent in sporadic colorectal cancer but its potential benefit in mismatch repair deficient cancers remains to be defined. We wanted to determine whether genetic defects that are relevant for colorectal cancer, such as Msh2 or p53 deficiency, would influence the efficiency of sulindac chemopreve...
